If you’re looking for drug rehab in Riverside County, Liberty House Recovery is just over the county line in Redlands, California. We’re in San Bernardino County, but for people coming from Riverside, Jurupa Valley, or Moreno Valley, the house is a relatively short drive away.

And yes, “house” is intentional.

Liberty House isn’t a sprawling treatment facility. It’s a small house owned and run by Pat and Lacey, who are involved in the program day to day. That makes it a little different from what you might picture when you hear the word “rehab,” especially if you’ve been through a larger treatment program before and are looking for something more personal this time.

We focus on two levels of care: medical detox and residential treatment. Both happen under the same roof, so clients who continue into residential care aren’t moved to another facility after detox. We don’t offer partial hospitalization, intensive outpatient treatment, or sober living.

Riverside County is huge, though, and we’re not going to pretend Redlands is equally close to everyone who lives there. If you’re coming from Riverside or the northwestern part of the county, we’re nearby. If you’re farther south or out toward the desert, you have more ground to cover.

Next, let’s look at how close Liberty House actually is to you.

How Close Liberty House Actually Is to You

Riverside County is far too big for us to say Liberty House is “close to Riverside County” and leave it at that. How close our Redlands house is depends a lot on which part of the county you call home.

For people in northwestern Riverside County, the drive is relatively short. From Moreno Valley, for example, Redlands is roughly 25 to 30 minutes away, depending on where you start and traffic. From Corona, the drive is around 30 minutes under lighter traffic conditions. Riverside and Jurupa Valley are also part of this closer northwestern corridor.

Once you get farther south into places like Temecula, Murrieta, or Menifee, you have a longer drive ahead of you. And if you live in the Coachella Valley or farther east in Riverside County, Liberty House is farther still.

That distance doesn’t necessarily have to rule out treatment in Redlands. Some people want a little space between treatment and the routines or surroundings they associate with drinking or substance use. Others want to stay closer to home so family can remain nearby. What matters is finding a setting that makes sense for you.

One important exception: if you’re actively withdrawing from alcohol or other substances, don’t drive yourself to treatment. Talk with admissions about your situation and what your safest options are before getting on the road.

Why a Small Group Works Differently

You’ll sometimes hear addiction called the disease of loneliness in recovery communities, and it’s not hard to understand why. When you’re carrying a lot of shame and your thoughts keep circling back to the next drink or drug, your world can get awfully small. It can become surprisingly easy to believe that nobody else thinks the way you do or has done the things you’ve done.

Then you sit in a room and hear somebody else say the thing you thought was only true about you.

That can be powerful in any group. But at Liberty House, you don’t walk out of the room afterward and disappear into a crowd of people you barely know. The people in group are the same people you eat breakfast with and see around the house. You start learning each other pretty quickly, and there’s less room to put on a completely different face once group is over.

There’s a harder side to that, too. You don’t have much anonymity. If you share something difficult in group, you’re going to see those same people again at dinner. If you’re used to keeping people at a distance, being known that well can feel uncomfortable at first.

But that’s also where a small group can become something different. You begin to realize that the people around you know some of the messier parts of your story, and they’re still sitting beside you the next day.

And maybe you’re not quite as alone in this as you thought.

Detox and Residential in a House, Not a Facility

There’s something incredibly raw about detox and early recovery. You may not be sleeping well. Your emotions can be all over the place. You’re away from your normal routines, and suddenly people you’ve just met are seeing you at one of the most vulnerable points in your life.

That’s where having a place that actually feels like a home can make a difference.

Treatment takes place in an actual house rather than a large clinical facility. There are comfortable common areas, outdoor space, a pool, and a garden. You still have the structure and clinical support you came for, but you’re living somewhere that feels more like a home while you begin getting your footing again.

Medical Detox

Medical detox provides supervision and support while your body adjusts to being without alcohol or other substances. Clients are monitored during withdrawal, and medication may be used to help manage symptoms and cravings when appropriate.

This is particularly important with alcohol and benzodiazepines. Withdrawal from alcohol or benzodiazepines can be fatal without medical supervision, so trying to detox from either one on your own can be dangerous. If withdrawal symptoms become severe or you’re experiencing a medical emergency, call 911 or go to the nearest emergency room. For crisis support, call or text 988.

Residential Treatment

Once you’re medically stable, residential treatment gives you more time to work on what was happening underneath the substance use. Individual therapy, group work, and family therapy are all part of treatment at Liberty House.

And you don’t have to pack everything up and start over somewhere new after detox. Residential treatment happens in the same house with the same team, which can matter when you’ve only just started feeling comfortable enough to let your guard down.

What Is Not Offered

Liberty House focuses on medical detox and residential treatment. It does not offer partial hospitalization, intensive outpatient treatment, outpatient care, or sober living. The focus here is deliberately narrow: providing those two levels of care in a small, personal setting.

Detox and early recovery can already make you feel like your whole life has been turned inside out. Having a smaller, more familiar environment around you won’t make that work easy, but it can make the place where you’re doing it feel a little less overwhelming.

The Therapies Behind the Two Levels

When you’re close enough to home for the people you love to be involved in treatment, some parts of the work can take on a different weight. At Liberty House, therapy isn’t limited to what happens between you and a therapist. There’s also room to work on relationships, learn from other people in recovery, and start understanding what may have been driving your substance use.

Family Therapy

When someone has been struggling with substance use, the people who love them have usually been going through it too.

Family therapy gives clients and their loved ones a place to start working through it together. For Riverside County families who are within driving distance of Redlands, being relatively close to treatment can make that involvement more practical.

Group Therapy

There are things you can learn in a room with other people who have been there that are hard to get anywhere else. Group therapy gives clients a chance to talk openly, hear different perspectives, and practice showing up honestly with other people.

Individual Therapy

Some things are simply easier to talk about one-on-one. Individual therapy gives you private time to look more closely at your substance use and the experiences or patterns connected to it.

Dual Diagnosis Treatment

Mental health and substance use can overlap in complicated ways. Dual diagnosis treatment addresses both when a client is dealing with a co-occurring mental health condition alongside substance use.

No single type of therapy will speak to everyone in the same way. That’s why the work at Liberty House can include approaches such as cognitive behavioral therapy and dialectical behavior therapy, giving clients different ways to understand what they’ve been through and begin figuring out what they want life to look like from here.

Getting to Redlands From Riverside County

For people coming from northwestern Riverside County, getting to Liberty House in Redlands is a relatively short trip. From Riverside, the drive is about 20 minutes under normal conditions. From Moreno Valley, it’s roughly 25 to 30 minutes. Traffic can change those times considerably, so it’s worth checking the route before you leave.

If someone you trust can drive you, that may be the simplest option. If you’re actively withdrawing, especially from alcohol or benzodiazepines, you should not drive yourself. Talk with the admissions team about your situation before making the trip so you can figure out the safest way to get there.

You don’t need to pack like you’re moving out of state, either. Bring comfortable clothes, basic personal items, and anything admissions has specifically asked you to bring. If you’re unsure about medications or what can come with you, ask before you leave rather than guessing.

Admissions can also answer questions about getting to the house and what to expect when you arrive. If you have questions about transportation or other logistics, check with the team directly rather than trying to sort everything out on your own.

Insurance and Verification

Insurance may help cover medical detox or residential treatment, but coverage can vary depending on your specific plan. The best way to understand your benefits is to have them verified before making any decisions about treatment.

If you’re considering traveling to Redlands from Riverside County, verifying your insurance is a simple way to answer one important practical question before deciding what you want to do next.

About Riverside County

Riverside County is enormous, stretching from the Santa Ana River corridor through cities like Riverside, Corona, Moreno Valley, and Temecula, then continuing east into the Coachella Valley and desert. More than 2.5 million people live in the county, and about half of residents identify as Hispanic or Latino. Riverside itself is home to the University of California, Riverside, and has deep roots in California’s citrus industry. Many residents commute toward Los Angeles and Orange counties for work, while healthcare and logistics are important parts of the Inland Empire economy.

And like any community this large, Riverside County has families dealing with substance use and its consequences. Riverside University Health System continues to track overdose deaths and emergency department visits across the county, including through its local overdose surveillance program. Liberty House serves people across Riverside County from its Redlands location, with medical detox and residential treatment available just over the county line.

Things to Do in Riverside County

Finding things to do that don’t revolve around drinking or substance use can feel surprisingly strange at first. Simple places to walk, get outside, spend time with family, or just get out of your own head for a while can help you start building a different kind of routine.

  • Mount Rubidoux Park: The paved trail up Mount Rubidoux is one of Riverside’s best-known places to walk and get outside. You can take it at your own pace, and the views from the top make it a good option when you need some space to clear your head.
  • California Citrus State Historic Park: This state park preserves part of Riverside’s citrus-growing history, with trails and open space for an easy afternoon outside. It’s a quieter option if you want fresh air without committing to a strenuous hike.
  • Lake Perris State Recreation Area: Lake Perris offers trails, picnic areas, and plenty of room to spend some time outdoors. It can also be an easy place to meet up with family and do something together that doesn’t require much of a plan.
  • Riverside Main Library: Not every healthy routine has to involve exercise. The Main Library in downtown Riverside offers a comfortable place to read, explore community programming, or simply spend a few quiet hours somewhere other than home.

These aren’t treatment activities or part of Liberty House programming. They’re simply a few local places that can make it easier to fill your time with something different, whether you’re preparing for treatment or settling back into life at home afterward.

Recovery Resources in Riverside County

Having support close to home can be valuable before treatment and after you return. Riverside County has several community resources for people dealing with substance use or looking for additional support, although some people will still need medically supervised detox or residential care.

Community resources can be an important part of having support around you, but they don’t replace medical care when withdrawal could be dangerous or when you need a higher level of treatment. Liberty House provides medical detox and residential treatment at its house in Redlands, just over the Riverside County line.
